This Week’s Idea: The Glorious Return of the Corolla, How Old Cars Are Getting Nine Lives Just like Cats, Steal This Concept Please!
Yes, I Can See You Launching This Very Concept
Did you know Blockbuster fumbled the crap out of a touchdown. In reality, did you know that Netflix offered the deal of a lifetime to sell itself to Blockbuster for a small amount of $50 million dollars?
For example, in the early 2000’s Netflix was struggling. They were losing money fast and had no clue if people even wanted to rent DVDs online.
Except me, I loved renting DVDs online, but also remember walking into a Blockbuster—blue carpets, delicious smell of popcorn, and the many shelves of countless movies. Ahh, good times.
One day, I do recall seeing a movie called “Please share the ideas-letter with your best friends.” I never rented it, but heard it was a success.
Sorry, back to Netflix. So they walked into Blockbuster’s office, pitched a partnership, and offered to sell the entire company for $50M.
Blockbuster laughed them out of the room. Fast forward to today here’s how things are looking:
- Blockbuster is a nostalgic meme (Yumm, I smell popcorn).
- Netflix? Worth a small amount of $150 billion dollars.
- Netflix has Stranger Things. Nuff’ said.
This is why Butter Ideas exists. Because wild or weird ideas don’t look smart at first. They look risky, silly, even dumb. But if you take the time to read the letter, they’re gold.
Every Tuesday at exactly 10 AM MST, we Hail Mary you a few ideas that seem strange today… but could be the next Netflix tomorrow.

🧨 Startups raising this week 💸
🆒 Social media’s cool older cousin is here 😎
🍕 From junkyard to Tesla/Lucid Vibes
🚀 STARTUPS RAISING THIS WEEK 💸
This one’s got some serious electric juice…
A handful of Lucid Motors and Apple’s top secret car project employees just stepped out of the shadows and dropped something wild.
The startup? Conifer. Their mission? Reinvent the electric motor.
Instead of relying on rare earth magnets which are expensive, hard to source, and wrapped up in global drama— they’re using ferrite magnets.
Why? They are cheaper, abundant, and less risky.
Oh one more thing, their motor is half the size, more efficient, and just as powerful.
With trade wars heating up and supply chains going full chaos mode, their timing couldn’t be any better.
Our investor friends noticed. Conifer raised $20 million from the likes of True Ventures, MaC Ventures, and more.

🆒 SOCIAL MEDIA’S COOL OLDER COUSIN IS HERE😎
Remember when social media felt fun? Before everything turned into a clout-chasing, algorithm-pleasing mess?
A new app called Neptune is bringing that era back. Yay.
Founded by Ashley Darling — Neptune is designed to cut creativity front and center. Instead of rewarding follower counts and viral tricks, Neptune gives spotlight to creators who just make cool stuff. Here is the concept: originality over popularity.
The best part is people are paying attention. The app is still in beta but already has 970 test users inside and a waitlist of over 400,000 users.
Neptune isn’t just another IG or TikTok clone either. Sure there are some similarities but it’s bringing some flavor to the table such as personalized profile covers and multiple rev streams like tips, livestreams, and subscriptions.
Butter Ideas is actively keeping an eye on this one. Neptune might just be the refresh we didn’t know we needed.

♻️ FROM JUNKYARD TO TESLA VIBE
Don’t worry, the battery works…
Ahh yes, who loves the smell of brand new cars? I read a post on Reddit that someone in Australia loved their car so much, they decided to marry it.
Interesting, but I don’t think any of us are into that kind of thing.
But, I do know some of you have had a vehicle that you loved how well it drove, until it didn’t. 😭
So in a world of never ending increased costs, why wouldn’t we give those amazing cars we enjoyed driving, an electric second life? Think about it, if our cats can have nine lives, then why can’t our cars have two? 🐈 🏎️
👻 Well, America Has a TON of Cars
There are approximately 332 million people living in the U.S. But what if I told you there are almost as many cars in the U.S as people? Yes sir, there are 282 million cars existing in the US.
But how many of those cars are just sitting in some junk yard collecting dust and taking up space? I don’t have an answer, but I will come back to you with one.
Now, the average car lasts 12 years — but what if it could last 12 more, 15 more, or forever?
🆕 Why Build New, When you Can Retrofit?
Team, here is the concept: You love your car so much, you are willing to give it a second life. You take your car to a EV certified conversion specialist. They perform open engine surgery, swap out the engine for AA batteries, and easily place a few electric motors in there. Easy as ABC, 123.
You name it. Love your Ford so much? Done.
Love your 2010 Toyota? Done.
Hate Tesla Cybertruck? Now you have an electric work truck.
Friends, this is what we call up-cycling… but with torque.
🥊 I Know You Are Into DIY…
Just how you get your work gloves out and start diy’ing your way through your house remodel, you can do this for your own cars.
Passionate engineers people are already converting cars in their home garages. So the opportunity here is creating the conversion kits for mass adoption.
Imagine “EV IKEA” — order the kit, call a mechanic, zap, good times.
💰 Might be Cheaper to Convert Than to Buy New
This weekend, I went car shopping for a new electric Porsche Taycan (My used one is too old).
Unfortunately the price was a bit steep. Pricing started at $100,000.
The first problem is that cars are getting way more expensive, as new EV’s are starting at $40,000+. If we were to go through our conversion kit opportunity, we could significantly reduce costs, maybe a full 50% less?
We also care about the planet, no more cars rusting away at junkyards collecting years of dust.
💰 Oh, You Wanted a Billion-Dollar Idea?
Sorry, but there is a process we have to go through in order to maximize profits. Kidding, here is your billion dollar idea. Conversion garages could become the next Jiffy Lube, Grease Monkey, and Pep Boys.
We just created value, by creating the marketplace for EV kits AND certified installers. This is a good one, that is ready for innovation.
No, this won’t be another Uber for electric upgrades…
