This Week’s Idea

Traffic helps you stay fit!

Did you know that Airbnb started as a simple solution to a common problem?

For example, the founders couldn’t afford rent, so they decided to rent out their air mattresses in their apartment to attendees of a local conference. They called it “Airbed and Breakfast.” What started as a scrappy idea to make ends meet turned into the global hospitality giant we know today. It’s a reminder that even small, creative solutions can grow into something massive with the right vision!

  • Ideas need a safe home

  • Traffic helps you stay fit!

DON’T GO CHASING IDEAS

Every great idea starts small—but only if you act on it. During college, a few friends sketched an idea on a napkin. It was a simple concept: an app that delivered late-night snacks to dorm rooms. They all laughed it off and kept eating their pizza.

A few years later, DoorDash became a billion-dollar company doing exactly that. The napkin sketch? It got tossed in the trash.

The moral? Ideas can be fleeting, but regret lingers longer. Chase them while you can—you never know where they might lead.

IDEAS NEED A SAFE HOME

The best ideas often come at the worst times. Like in the shower or during a commute. Yes, don’t be shy, we all experience this.

A friend once had a genius business concept, but had jotted it on his computer science exam. When I asked him what it was, he said, “I can’t remember but I wrote it down on my exam”. By the end of the day, this concept was long gone. The professor had thrown out all the exams after grading.

Lesson learned: Give your ideas a safe, permanent home. Whether it’s like a notes app or dedicated notebook, don’t leave brilliance to chance.

TRAFFIC HELPS YOU STAY FIT

Don’t worry, the seats dumbbells are clean.

Good news! You just sat in traffic, avoided a car wreck, and made it to the gym after 25 long minutes. Congrats. The bad news, you are now worn out from all the traffic. Your workout won’t be the same.

This is the moment you realize that there needs to be a better way of working out. In fact, there should be a better way to spend 50 minutes than sitting in traffic.

Here is where you save 50 minutes or more by switching to ButterFit.

Team, do you really want to spend 50 long minutes just driving? What if there was a butter way to hit your workout goals? What if you could help someone hit their workout goals and generate passive income at the same time? Yes, you read that right.

Meet ButterFit. ButterFit is the largest and most trusted online community to rent home gyms near you.

All you need to do is launch ButterFit, book a workout session, and walk down to the home gym. Did you just ask where the gym is located?

Give me the rev’ fax!

The global gym membership market was valued at $48.5 billion in 2022, and is projected to reach $70.1 billion by 2032. In the United States, the gym, health, and fitness club industry generated $30.8 billion in revenue in 2023.

So you have a home gym, why not let people in your neighborhood pay you, to let them use your home gym? This is a no brainer, specially because it would be limited to your neighborhood. You already know your neighbors.

For guests: The ButterFit platform allows you to find home gyms in your area, chat with hosts, and help meet your fitness goals. You can pay on a daily or monthly basis.

For hosts: The ButterFit platform allows you to create a listing, accept reservations, and get paid. This allows you to generate income by taking advantage of the space and equipment you already have.

I personally launched this. Here is my website www.bodbite.com

Let’s launch ButterFit.

For this step, I would discuss with an attorney on providing a platform where people can host and book home gyms.

I mentioned buying a website domain, brand, registering your business. In this scenario, you need to purchase business insurance. Even though you are only connecting fitness enthusiasts and home gyms, you still run the risk of someone getting hurt and blaming you. Please buy business insurance.

Laws and regulations vary from state to state. You would need to consult with the local government regarding home gyms. HOA’s will also have an impact, as they have specific regulations for neighborhoods.

You have now conquered the important stuff. Go out there and start working with home gym owners and get them signed up for the platform. You will have to educate people on this new concept, so I would start with partnering up with home gym equipment manufacturers.

Launch.

Invest in ButterFit.

Just like any other business, you will need to invest in certaina areas more than others. The most important investment up front will be business insurance.

Estimated costs:

  • Startup Cost: $2,000-$5,000 for website setup, ad spend, and initial marketing. ButterFit is a platform like AirBnB.

  • Lawyer Cost: $2,800-$3,500 for general research.

  • Software Development: $50,000-$100,000. You can expect your investment to be in this range, but you are essentially building a new marketplace that takes payment, hosts home gyms, and meets the sharing economy guidelines.

  • Note: If you can code, you will reduce your software development costs.

butter ideas Pro Tip:

For this concept, you would need to start talking with people that already have a home gym space. You can also partner up with a home gym manufacturer. If you think about it, people already made the investment up front to purchase home gym equipment. The next step would be to help them sign up on your marketplace.
